Follower Growth Rate Calculator
Measure your follower growth rate on any platform — free, instant, and nothing leaves your browser
Follower growth rate tells you how fast an account is gaining (or losing) followers over a set period. The formula is (new followers − starting followers) ÷ starting followers × 100. Pick your platform, enter two follower snapshots and the number of days between them, and this calculator returns your growth percentage, daily average, 30-day normalised rate, and projections at 30 and 90 days — all benchmarked against published platform averages.
How to Use This Calculator
Choose your platform from the dropdown, then enter your follower count at the start and end of the period you want to measure. Set the number of days between the two snapshots and click Calculate Growth Rate. The tool returns your overall growth percentage, the average number of followers gained per day, a 30-day normalised rate for easy comparison across different time windows, and projections at 30 and 90 days if the same pace continues. All calculations run in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How to Calculate Follower Growth Rate
The standard follower growth rate formula is straightforward:
- Growth % = (followers at end − followers at start) ÷ followers at start × 100. A positive number means your audience grew; a negative number means it shrank.
- Average daily growth = (followers at end − followers at start) ÷ days. This tells you how many followers you gained (or lost) per day on average.
- 30-day normalised rate = growth % × 30 ÷ days. Normalising to 30 days lets you compare a 7-day burst with a 90-day trend on equal footing.
The projections multiply your daily average by 30 or 90 days and add the result to your current (end-of-period) follower count, assuming the same pace continues.
What Is a Good Follower Growth Rate?
Healthy growth varies by platform, audience size, and niche. The table below shows approximate monthly benchmarks compiled from published studies by Socialinsider and Rival IQ. Use them as a directional guide, not an absolute grade.
| Platform | Low | Average | Good | Excellent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| < 0.5% | 0.5 – 1.5% | 1.5 – 3% | > 3% | |
| TikTok | < 1% | 1 – 3% | 3 – 6% | > 6% |
| YouTube | < 0.5% | 0.5 – 1.5% | 1.5 – 3% | > 3% |
| X (Twitter) | < 0.3% | 0.3 – 1% | 1 – 2% | > 2% |
| < 0.2% | 0.2 – 0.8% | 0.8 – 2% | > 2% | |
| < 0.5% | 0.5 – 1.5% | 1.5 – 3% | > 3% |
Watch for inorganic spikes. A sudden follower jump paired with flat or declining engagement is a classic sign of purchased or bot followers. Always cross-check growth against engagement — use our Instagram engagement rate calculator or Facebook engagement rate calculator to verify that new followers are real, active people.
Tips to Improve Your Follower Growth Rate
Growth comes from discoverability and retention. Post consistently on the days and times your audience is most active. Lean into short-form video (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) — algorithmic reach on those formats regularly outperforms feed posts. Engage with comments and DMs within the first hour after posting to signal to the algorithm that your content sparks conversation. Collaborate with creators in adjacent niches for cross-exposure. Frequently Asked Questions
How to calculate follower growth rate?
Subtract your starting follower count from your ending count, divide the difference by the starting count, and multiply by 100. For example, going from 5,000 to 5,400 followers is a (5,400 − 5,000) ÷ 5,000 × 100 = 8% growth rate. Divide that by the number of days in the period for a daily rate, or normalise to 30 days for a monthly comparison.
What is a good follower growth rate on Instagram?
A monthly growth rate between 1.5% and 3% is considered good for most Instagram accounts. Accounts under 10K followers often grow faster (3–5%+) because a single viral Reel can double a small audience, while large accounts (100K+) typically see slower rates in the 0.5–1.5% range because of the larger base. Any consistent positive growth is healthy — what matters more is that engagement keeps pace with follower gains.
Is follower growth rate the same as audience growth rate?
They are often used interchangeably. Some marketers define "audience growth rate" to include non-follower reach (e.g., unique viewers from the Explore page or For You feed), but for benchmarking purposes the standard metric is based on follower count alone, which is what this calculator measures.
How often should I measure follower growth?
Weekly or monthly snapshots work best for most accounts. Daily measurements are noisy because a single viral post or a follow/unfollow bot sweep can distort a single day's numbers. A 30-day window smooths those spikes and gives you a trend you can act on.
Can a negative growth rate be normal?
Short dips happen to every account — platform purges of inactive or bot accounts, seasonal drops, or a break from posting can all cause a brief negative rate. If the decline persists month-over-month, audit your content, posting frequency, and engagement before assuming something is broken.
Does this calculator access my social media account?
No. It does not ask for your handle, password, or API access. Everything is calculated in your browser from the numbers you type, so it works for your own account, a competitor's public data, or a creator you are vetting — and your data never leaves your device.
