Spotify Royalty Calculator
Turn streams into an estimated payout for Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer and SoundCloud
Spotify pays roughly $0.003 to $0.005 per stream, so 1,000 streams earn about $3 to $5 and 1 million streams about $3,000 to $5,000. That money goes to whoever owns the master recording (you, your label or your distributor account) before any distributor fee or split with collaborators. Enter your streams below to estimate your share.
Rates last updated: November 2026. Estimates only. Your real figures are in your distributor dashboard or Spotify for Artists. Nothing you type here leaves your browser.
How to Use the Calculator
Enter the number of streams, pick the platform and, for Spotify, a low, average or high rate. A mostly US, UK or Nordic audience on paid plans lands near the high end; listeners in lower-priced markets or on the free tier pull it down. Set your rights share if you split the master with a band, producer or label, and your distributor’s commission if it takes one (many flat-fee distributors take 0%, others 10–20%). Add a monthly income goal to see how many streams it takes.
How Spotify Royalties Are Calculated
Spotify doesn’t pay a fixed amount per play. It pools subscription and ad revenue for each country, pays out roughly two-thirds of it, and divides that pool by each artist’s share of total streams in that market. That’s why the per-stream figure moves month to month. The calculator uses:
- Payout = streams × per-stream rate × your share % × (1 − distributor cut %)
- Streams needed = income goal ÷ (per-stream rate × share % × (1 − cut %))
Example: 100,000 Spotify streams at $0.004 is $400. Split 50/50 with a co-writer on the master and with a 15% distributor cut, your share is $170.
Spotify Streams to Money
| Streams | Low ($0.003) | Average ($0.004) | High ($0.005) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | $30.00 | $40.00 | $50.00 |
| 50,000 | $150 | $200 | $250 |
| 100,000 | $300 | $400 | $500 |
| 1,000,000 | $3,000 | $4,000 | $5,000 |
| 10,000,000 | $30,000 | $40,000 | $50,000 |
Spotify vs Apple Music, Tidal and Other Platforms
Per stream, Spotify sits in the lower half. Tidal and Apple Music pay more, but Spotify’s much larger audience usually makes it the biggest line on an independent artist’s statement.
| Platform | Per stream | 1,000 streams | 100,000 streams | 1M streams |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify | $0.0040 | $4.00 | $400 | $4,000 |
| Apple Music | $0.0080 | $8.00 | $800 | $8,000 |
| YouTube Music | $0.0070 | $7.00 | $700 | $7,000 |
| Amazon Music | $0.0060 | $6.00 | $600 | $6,000 |
| Tidal | $0.0125 | $12.50 | $1,250 | $12,500 |
| Deezer | $0.0064 | $6.40 | $640 | $6,400 |
| SoundCloud | $0.0025 | $2.50 | $250 | $2,500 |
What Changes Your Payout
- The 1,000-stream minimum. Since 2024 Spotify only pays recorded-music royalties on tracks with at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months. Below that, a track earns nothing.
- Listener country and plan. A Premium stream in the US is worth several times a free-tier stream in a lower-priced market.
- Who owns what. These figures are the master (recording) side. Songwriting royalties are paid separately through your publisher, a collection society and, in the US, the MLC.
- Distributor and label deals. A label may keep 50–85% of the master income; a distributor anywhere from 0% to 20%.
- Artificial streams. Spotify removes bot streams, withholds royalties on them and can charge distributors a fee per affected track, so only real listeners count toward your payout.
Growing Real Streams
Royalties scale with genuine listening: release consistently, pitch each single to Spotify’s editors through Spotify for Artists at least a week ahead, and push fans to save and follow so you land in Release Radar. Favor services that reach real listeners and deliver gradually; bot plays earn nothing and put your tracks at risk.
