Twitter Engagement Rate Calculator
Calculate your X (Twitter) post engagement rate by followers or impressions — free, instant, and nothing leaves your browser
Twitter engagement rate is the percentage of your audience that interacted with your content through likes, replies, reposts, quotes, or bookmarks. The standard formula is (likes + replies + reposts + quotes + bookmarks) ÷ followers × 100. Enter your numbers below to get your rate by followers, your rate by impressions (when available), and a verdict against published X/Twitter benchmarks.
How to Use This Calculator
Open your X (Twitter) profile and click the Analytics link on any tweet, or visit the Analytics dashboard to find your follower count and average impressions. Note the likes, replies, reposts, quotes, and bookmarks on the tweets you want to measure. Enter those numbers above, set how many posts the averages cover, then click Calculate Engagement Rate. Your inputs are saved locally in your browser so you can tweak one number and recalculate — nothing is uploaded anywhere.
How to Calculate Twitter Engagement Rate
There are two accepted ways to measure X (Twitter) engagement, and this calculator gives you both:
- Engagement rate by followers = (likes + replies + reposts + quotes + bookmarks) ÷ followers × 100. This is the standard metric for comparing profiles and the one most benchmark studies publish.
- Engagement rate by impressions = (likes + replies + reposts + quotes + bookmarks) ÷ impressions × 100. Because X shows tweets to only a fraction of your followers, this measures how compelling a tweet was to the people who actually saw it. It appears only when you enter an impressions figure.
To measure your overall profile performance, enter the average likes, replies, reposts, quotes, and bookmarks across your last 10–20 tweets and set “Posts analyzed” to that number — the calculator then also shows your total engagements across all of those tweets.
What Is a Good Twitter Engagement Rate?
Twitter engagement rates tend to be lower than LinkedIn or Instagram because the platform’s fast-moving feed means most tweets are seen by a small share of followers. According to Socialinsider’s X/Twitter benchmarks, the median engagement rate by followers sits at roughly 0.035% for brand accounts, though active personal profiles and niche communities can see considerably higher rates. Content with images, polls, or threads tends to outperform plain text tweets. This calculator’s verdict uses the approximate ranges below.
| Engagement rate by followers | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Under 0.02% | Low |
| 0.02% – 0.05% | Around average |
| 0.05% – 0.1% | Good — above the ~0.035% average |
| 0.1% – 0.5% | Very good |
| Over 0.5% | Excellent |
How to Improve Your Twitter Engagement Rate
Engagement rate is a ratio, so you can lift it from both sides: earn more interactions per tweet and ensure your follower base is genuinely interested in your niche. Post consistently during peak hours (weekday mornings and early afternoons in your audience’s time zone), use images or short videos to stop the scroll, write threads that invite replies, and engage with other accounts in your space — replies and quote tweets often drive reciprocal engagement.
Before investing in growth services, know your baseline — a low engagement rate on an account padded with inactive followers is a warning sign. Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate engagement rate on Twitter?
Add a tweet’s likes, replies, reposts, quotes, and bookmarks, divide the total by your follower count (or the tweet’s impressions), then multiply by 100. For a whole profile, average the rate across your last 10–20 tweets.
What’s the average engagement rate on X (Twitter)?
Published benchmarks put the median X/Twitter engagement rate by followers at roughly 0.035% for brand accounts. Personal profiles with consistent posting and niche audiences often see 0.1–0.5% or higher. A rate above 0.1% is strong; above 0.5% is excellent by any measure.
Should I use engagement rate by followers or by impressions?
Use by followers to compare profiles and to report against industry benchmarks, since that is what most studies publish. Use by impressions to judge how compelling an individual tweet was to the people who actually saw it.
What counts as an engagement on X?
The five primary engagement actions are likes, replies, reposts (retweets), quote tweets, and bookmarks. Some benchmarks also count link clicks, profile visits, or media views, but this calculator focuses on the five visible public actions that any profile can measure from the tweet analytics view.
Why is my Twitter engagement rate lower than my Instagram rate?
X’s fast-moving timeline means most tweets are seen by a much smaller share of followers than an Instagram post. The platform also has a higher volume of content per user, which dilutes per-tweet engagement. Compare your X rate against X-specific benchmarks rather than cross-platform ones — or use the Instagram engagement rate calculator to compare apples to apples.
Does this calculator access my X account?
No. It doesn’t ask for your username, password, or API access. Everything is calculated in your browser from the numbers you type, and your data never leaves your device.
